mixed media photographic impressionism project

as an avid fan of art in almost any form, the idea to do an impressionism based photographic project sounded like a lot of fun. i don't recall where the idea came from, it was partly through the abstract and nebulous work i have seen people create with pinhole cameras and holgas, and partly through some of the terrible "impressionism" photography i have seen (simply mediocre photographs run through some filters in photoshop to create the aesthetic of a Monet or even Van Gogh).

on top of this, i had previously been working on an idea for a mixed media project that used metal prints (printed on sheets of aluminum), distressing said prints and then tagging them with stenciled grafitti in japanese. the tagging will be of japanese poetry, haiku, and poetry that has been translated which fits with the theme and aesthetic of the image.

unfortunately my first concept image is not terribly good (the colors don't seem to jive with the internet). however, i spent a small amount of time creating this image (more for myself than anything else) and plan to make a physical, small scale sample in the next week or so.

as the project progresses, i will create a gallery of the images (without the tagging) for you to view. once the project meets its financial goal, i can start work on the final products. an update of these will show up as i'm working on them.

don't go changing...

well, too late. tough nuggets.

so here we are, my blog attached to www.jasonfukura.com has moved from the squarespace servers to this home on blogger.com. i don't know if we'll stay here, but you'll be the first to know if we don't.

the website is undergoing a massive overhaul to setup the online print ordering as well as streamlining the cashflow (read: save money). i love squarespace, and i will definitely miss their intuitive interface and complex site monitoring systems. i could track who came to my site and what they did on a second by second basis, track ip addresses and what pages/blogs/updates were generating the most buzz. time to learn google analytics.

don't forget to vote for our humble company in the best of western washington! we could end up with a top 20 finish, which would be AWESOME!

keep your eyes peeled. things will be changing...a lot...
